The James Brand: Warrick Bit Driver

Beyond a blade and a pry, one of the tools that you need at-hand all the time is a screwdriver. That said, very few screwdrivers or bit drivers are both easy enough to carry and useful enough to count on. That’s where the Warrick comes in. Featuring the four most popular screwdriver bits and designed to easily fit in your coin pocket, the Warrick is as useful as it is beautiful. Whether you are turning mounts on a camera rig or changing batteries in your kids RC car, the Warrick will be there when you need it.

The goal of this project was to develop and a new paradigm for The James Brand bit driver product to update their portfolio. The new form formfactor is slim and pocketable while allowing for more bit storage and more leverage in a pocketable and discreet form factor.

Patrick was tasked with design execution and leading a team of junior and senior designers from ideation to CAD hand-off.

A functional core hidden beneath a sophisticated exterior

The design of The Warrick utilizes a sleeve and core design to create a desirable aesthetic while retaining function. The core is hidden by the anodized sleeve until needed. The core is held in place by a rubber gasket and can be removed by pulling the cord lanyard with rubber coating.

Modern rugged tool aesthetic

A design language centered around precision tight edges juxtaposed with crowned surfacing creates a serious but modern tool aesthetic.

Pocket friendly form factor

An important feature of this design was to keep the form factor slim for storing in a coin pocket or stuffing in a bike bag. This design is meant to be taken and stored for life’s different adventures.

A customizable tool for a variety of lifestyles and activites

The bit carrier features magnets that securely hold the bits in place - but allow them to be hot swapped based on the activity at hand.

Coyote tan colorway

The hidden core was designed in plastic for the ability to do a pop color reveal. This part break up allows for expressive combinations that can be quieter on the outside and bold on the inside.
